All meetings are held at the Town Hall, located at 1238-B Camp Road, James Island, SC.

Tropical Depression Update - Town Moves to OPCON 4 

NEWS RELEASE -- Town Moves to OPCON 4 in Preparation of Tropical Depression

RELEASE #1 - August 28, 2017


Following Charleston County’s move to OPCON 4 at 1 p.m. today, the Town of James Island is currently operating at OPCON 4 in preparation for the Tri-county Tropical Depression. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as they become available. No operational changes are being made at this point; we are only on heightened alert in case the weather event worsens. Citizens are asked to be on heightened alert as well.

Subtropical Activity 

A subtropical system located 60 miles east of Georgia will likely develop into a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm as early as tomorrow.  Local impacts many include increased rainfall, thunderstorms, heavy wave activity, beach erosion, as well as moderate wind speeds. 
It should be noted that as a precautionary measure, The National Hurricane Center could issue a tropical storm watch for portions of the coast of North and South Carolina this afternoon. Please watch for ponding and flooding in low-lying areas. We will continue to monitor the development of this subtropical system informing you of any significant developments at
