Traffic Alert: Nighttime Lane Closures for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project

Charleston County Government announces nighttime lane closures will continue at various locations in the project area during the next two weeks for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project. Closures will occur in both directions on Folly Road, Camp Road, Eugene Gibbs Street and Rivers Point Row.

Crews will be conducting paving operations on Folly Road. This paving will be placed over the existing roadway and also in the new areas required to widen the intersections. This paving operation is expected to last approximately two weeks. All work is weather permitting.

At no time will the entire roadway be blocked to traffic.

January 21 – February 1

  • Nighttime lane closures will occur Sunday night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and Monday through Thursday nights between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.
  • Drivers will have access to businesses and residential properties roads at all times and are urged to use caution when lane closures are in place.
  • At least one lane in each direction will remain open to traffic under flagging operations.
  • Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.

The Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project on James Island involves improvements to Folly Road from about 1,000 feet south of Camp Road to the intersection with Eugene Gibbs Street and Rivers Point Row, and improvements to Camp Road from West Madison Avenue to Oyster Point Row. Improvements will relieve traffic congestion and localized flooding by adding turn lanes and upsizing drainage pipes. Bike lanes and sidewalks will also be added.

Winter Weather Release 5

January 5, 2018

Town offices are closed today and will open for regular business Monday at 9 AM. The Town remains at OPCON 3.

The sunshine and rising temperatures helped clear much ice and snow yesterday and will continue to do so this afternoon.  A return to very cold temperatures tonight will refreeze anything remaining wet.

Please avoid travel tonight and early Saturday morning if possible.   There will likely be patches of ice on many James Island roads.

All bridges and roads are open this afternoon. All the major bridges on James Island are under City of Charleston jurisdiction and they have a very helpful website for road and bridge closings.

SCE&G reports no reported power outages on James Island this morning. Report outages to SCE&G customer service at 800-251-7234 or via online at

Report downed or sparking lines to 866-879-6003.

Do not use camp stoves, propane stoves or other open flame devices indoors. Carbon monoxide given off by these devices can lead to incapacity and death. If you start to feel faint, dizzy, sick, or weak get to fresh air immediately.
