Update on Hurricane Matthew Debris Removal 10/20

Thank you to our residents for their continued patience on the storm debris removal process. We have been in constant contact with Charleston County who is managing the debris removal contracts for the area municipalities.

Unfortunately there is currently a shortfall in current resources because of the high demand for subcontractors in the 7 states that have been affected. The County as well as the municipalities and PSD's are all supplementing those resources, and hopeful this is a short-term situation.

The Town has asked for priority areas including main artery roads such as Ft. Johnson to be taken care of as soon as possible for safety and traffic concerns.

Attached is a link to Charleston County's updated schedule from today, as well as important information on debris placement. Please note different trucks pick up different types of debris, and many factors are weighed in such as low hanging limbs and other operating conditions.

Traffic Alert: Temporary Nighttime Detour for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project

Charleston County Government announces a temporary nighttime detour starting Sunday, Oct. 16 for traffic on Camp Road from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. A segment of Camp Road will be closed to traffic from approximately 200 feet east of Folly Road to Bradford Avenue.  Crews will be installing drainage pipes across a 100 foot section of Camp Road in front of the VFW building for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project. All work is weather permitting.

Drivers will have access to businesses and residential properties along Camp Road at all times.

Oct. 16 – Oct. 17

  • Nighttime detour on Camp Road is scheduled for Sunday and Monday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

  • Westbound traffic on Camp Road will be directed onto Bradford and Prescott Streets to access Folly Road.

  • Northbound traffic on Folly Road will be directed onto Prescott and Bradford Streets to proceed east on Camp Road.

  • Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.

  • Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.

The Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project on James Island involves improvements to Folly Road from about 1,000 feet south of Camp Road to the intersection with Eugene Gibbs Street and Rivers Point Row, and improvements to Camp Road from West Madison Avenue to Oyster Point Row. Improvements will relieve traffic congestion and localized flooding by adding turn lanes and upsizing drainage pipes. Bike lanes and sidewalks will also be included in the project.
