The Town of James Island is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Florence and has returned to OPCON level 5 and will resume normal operations Monday morning at 9 am.
The Town participated in an Emergency Management call today with Charleston County and State emergency officials. The evacuation order has been lifted for Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley Counties. Tropical Storm Florence is centered about 50 miles north-northeast of Charleston and will continue to move very slowly to the west and weaken through this afternoon. Some tropical storm force winds will still be possible, mainly across the Charleston-Tri-county region, especially within stronger rain bands. Conditions will gradually improve tonight.
There has been minimal damage across the area. However, residents are able to enter any damage the may have received directly at www.charlestoncounty.org and there is a banner with that link on the homepage.
Sandbag operations have ceased. The Town issued 12,000 sandbags since Saturday.
The Charleston County Citizen Hotline is still open but will cease when Charleston County returns to OPCON level 5 (normal operations). That number is 843-746-3900.
