THE ILLUMINATION PROJECT LISTENING SESSIONS ON JAMES ISLAND
In a continuing effort to get the word out, I wanted to be certain that as many as possible were aware of the Illumination Project and the upcoming meeting date of April 19 on James Island.
The Illumination Project is an effort to create a better understanding and partnership between citizens and the police department. Both parties are encouraging an honest exchange of thoughts, questions, complaints, ideas and overall communication in order to avoid some of the terrible situations that have occurred throughout the country over the past several years. The Charleston Police Department is seeking to gather the best practices and outcomes from these listening sessions and better their policies and strengthen the relationship with the public.
There are two sessions scheduled for James Island- a 4 p.m. and a 6:15 p.m. session, both to be held at James Island Charter High School in the new auditorium. Anyone from the community is welcome to attend and it is not strictly city-only residents. We all live on James Island and face the same issues.
Please pass this information along to your neighborhood residents and please attend if you are able.
You are most welcome to contact me with questions.
Below is a synopsis found on the City's website.
The City of Charleston began a year-long project to further strengthen relationships between the citizens and police by respecting the importance of Public Safety and Individual Rights. The Charleston Police Fund is sponsoring this project in an effort to involve all walks of people in the Charleston community.
Starting in early March of 2016, the Charleston Illumination Project is conducting many Listening Sessions; they will last just over an hour and a half. We are looking for your hopes, concerns and plans to build open and long-lasting relationships between the police and the citizens they serve. Open to the public, these events will be held in the late afternoon and early evening over a period of three months in order to meet a variety of schedules.
