On Thursday, May 14th, The Town of James Island hosted a Groundbreaking ceremony for Ben Road. The Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program, with matching funds provided by the Town of James Island, is improving Ben Road with a pervious asphalt pavement surface. Construction begins on Monday, May 18th.

The JIPSD Budget is up for first reading at the Commission Meeting on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 at Signal Point Road.
The current draft includes a property tax increase from 51.1 mills to 53.1 mills. That is a 3.9% increase.
The draft budget includes pay increases for all JIPSD employees averaging 7.5%.
The budget document forecasts property tax increases to 64.1 millls in 2020, a 25% increase over 5 years.
The possible sale of a portion of the Dills Bluff Property is on the agenda as well. The Town has expressed interest in buying up to 2 acres of the property for a new Town Hall. It is also a potential site for the new Charleston County library on James Island if the Commissioners are willing to sell.

Due to Subtropical Storm Ana, we have decided to CANCEL the Hurricane Expo for Saturday, 9 May at Lowes. We will have Emergency Preparedness events for the public in the coming weeks and months and everyone will be informed.
