"DHEC Public Notice Regarding James Island Creek"

Persons wishing to submit comments on either of the draft Enterococci bacteria total maximum daily load (TMDL) documents are invited to make these submissions in writing no later than 5:00 pm Monday, June 14, 2019, to:  Banu Varlik, S.C. Dept. of Health and Environmental Control, Bureau of Water, 2600 Bull St, Columbia, S.C.  29201, or via e-mail to  Persons may also contact Matt Carswell at  The purpose of TMDLs is to calculate the amount of pollutant reduction necessary for an impaired waterbody to achieve and maintain water quality standards. Comments will be considered in development of the final TMDLs and addressed in a responsiveness summary to be provided to all commenters.  Copies of individual TMDL documents can be obtained from the Bureau of Water web site: or by calling (803) 898-3701, writing, or e-mailing at the address above. Section 303(d)(1) of the Clean Water Act (CWA), 33 U.S.C.  § 1313(d)(1)(C), and the implementing regulation of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, 40 C.F.R. § 130.7(c) (1), require the establishment of TMDLs for waters identified as impaired.
