TOJI ACTIVATES MEOC IN PREPARATION FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW

The Town of James Island activated its MEOC on Monday at 3:00 p.m.in preparation for Hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew is currently Category 4 with sustained winds at 140 MPH. James Island is currently in the core of uncertainty, and while the track is uncertain, we likely will see effects from Hurricane Matthew.
Sand and bags are currently available for all James Island residents to fill at Pinckney Park, located at 461 Fort Johnson Road. Please limit to ten per household. Beginning on Tuesday, October 3, sand and bags will be available at Dock Street Park located at 1433 Patterson Avenue. Please bring your own shovels. More information on where sandbags can be obtained will be released when the information becomes available.
The Town participated in a conference call with Charleston County Emergency Management this afternoon to receive updates on Hurricane Matthew and should a notice of evacuation be issued, please follow evacuation route below:
James Island and Folly Beach – take SC 171 (Folly Road) to US 17.
Take US 17 South to I-526 east to the reversed lanes of I-26
No evacuation order has been issued, but one could come as early as Wednesday. Please make your
family preparations now.
The Town will continue to monitor Hurricane Matthew and send out regular updates as information
becomes available.
