News Release #11— The Town of James Island has moved to OPCON 3 on Sunday, October 9th at Noon. Recovery from Hurricane Matthew is well underway. Governor Haley at the request of Charleston County has lifted the evacuation order for Charleston County. Trees and power lines are down across the Island. JIPSD crews are steadily working to clear the roads, and many of the main roads are now open. The majority of James Island is still without power. SCE&G crews are hard at work, but they are spread across the entire low country and working diligently. Please continue to remain patient. JIPSD will be collecting garbage and trash tomorrow, Monday the 10th. The Lowes on James Island is open as of Sunday morning as are many restaurants and grocery stores open as well. The Charleston airport is open. The Town of James Island Municipal Operations Center (MEOC) is in Greenwood, South Carolina. Town Hall is closed. Team 1 has returned to Town Hall to access damage. Residents may reach the MEOC by calling the Town phone number 843-795-4141. For emergencies, call 911. Town Hall will be closed for normal business on Monday and reopen on Tuesday, October 11th. We have contacted our Neighborhood Council representatives and are continuing to compile reports from them on the status of power and downed trees and damages.
