With Tropical Storm Debby drifting slowly just off the South Carolina coast, the Town of James Island continues at OPCON ONE. Town officials remain in close contact with Charleston County Emergency Management and other regional partners.
Town officials conducted a windshield survey after sun-up on Wednesday and no major overnight damage was reported.
As of 12 p.m., all Town roads were open.
Mayor Brook Lyon said, "Though we've been relatively fortunate so far, Debby is still just off the coast. With major wind gusts and more rain expected through tomorrow, we're asking our residents to stay informed and stay safe until this storm is out of the area."
Forecast: Tropical Storm Debby is expected to make landfall in South Carolina tonight, bringing tropical-storm-force wind gusts and more rain to the already-saturated Charleston region. Expected impacts include flooding, downed trees and powerlines, and power outages. Emergency managers and first responders continue to advise caution if travel is required.
Closures and cancellations: The Town of James Island remains closed for regular business today as officials and staff perform their emergency roles. All Town-sponsored public meetings have been canceled for the week.
