Town prepares for Tropical Depression 4 (Debby)
Free sandbags available for residents beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow
Town of James Island officials are closely monitoring Tropical Depression 4 and are in close contact with Charleston County Emergency Management regarding expected storm impacts and preparations. Tropical Depression 4, likely to become Tropical Storm Debby later today, is forecasted to bring heavy rains, high winds, and flooding to the Charleston area starting as early Monday morning.
“Based on current projections, emergency officials and first responders are preparing for the possibility of very heavy rains, high winds, and flooding over the next several days, and we’d ask our citizens to do the same,” Mayor Brook Lyon said. “So start making your normal storm preparations now, and keep a close eye on local news and weather reports for important information throughout the event.”
Sandbag availability: From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 4, the Town will have a limited supply of free sand and bags available at Town Hall, 1122 Dills Bluff Road, for residents to build their own sandbags. Residents should bring their own shovels for assembly. Staff will be on-site to provide assistance as needed.
Additional information: For the most accurate and up-to-date weather forecasts, residents should stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service Charleston websites, as well as local media and the FEMA app.
