The South Carolina Department of Transportation will be replacing a drainage culvert under Fort Johnson at Eaglewood Retreat next week, Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15. Expect lane closures and slow traffic between 9 AM and 2 PM on these days.
The culvert was closed when Eaglewood Retreat was paved many years ago. This was partly responsible for problems with flooding last fall both on Fort Johnson Road and in the residential area just to the north. SCDOT reopened the culvert on an emergency bases in response. This project is the first step toward repairing and improving the drainage in the area. The remaining steps include repair of the Fort Johnson sidewalk by Charleston County public works and improvement of the drainage ditch along Eaglewood Retreat by City of Charleston public works.
