Tropical Storm Hermine – Town of James Island Media Release #3
The Town of James Island participated in the third Tri-County Conference Call this afternoon to discuss Tropical Storm Hermine's current and projected effects as well as to receive status updates agency-wide. The main points to know are as follows:
Rain- 3-5 inches and 4-8 inches inland
Winds- 30-35 mph sustained winds. High-span bridges will not close unless 40 mph sustained winds
Tornado watch in effect until 4 pm today
Storm surge- Minimal inundation
Last outer band of storm is expected to move through the area by 9 pm tonight.
The Town of James Island is currently at OPCON 4 and has activated its Municipal Emergency Operations Center. The Town is operating under normal business hours today.
SCE&G crews are closely monitoring the storm and are staging extra crews for rapid damage assessment and restoration response afterward. They do expect electric outages due to high winds and rain, but currently don't anticipate longer than normal restoration time.
