Town of James Island winter weather update #3
Black ice warning; residents asked to stay off roads until conditions improve
The Town of James Island remains at OPCON 2 as officials work with Charleston County Emergency Management and other state and local officials to respond to the ongoing winter weather.
Last night's winter storm dropped up to four inches of snow across the Charleston area, creating hazardous driving conditions throughout the region. These conditions are expected to continue into Thursday, as partially melted snow refreezes overnight and leaves dangerous black ice on roadways.
Residents are asked to remain off the roads until conditions improve.
"Our first responders and emergency management officials are working hard to keep us safe throughout this event," Mayor Brook Lyon said. "So, let's help keep them safe, too, by staying off the roads until conditions return to normal."
Closings and cancellations: Town offices will remain closed Thursday, with employees working remotely. In addition, tonight's Mill Point Family Park public input session and Thursday's Neighborhood Council meeting have been postponed. They will be rescheduled when the winter weather has passed.
