Town of James Island Winter Weather Update #4

SCDOT working to reopen James Island Connector; travel remains treacherous throughout the region

The Town of James Island remains at OPCON 2 and continues to work closely with Charleston County Emergency Management and other state and local officials to respond to the ongoing winter weather.

As of 2:15 p.m. today, S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) crews were working to reopen the James Island Connector, which closed in the early morning hours due to heavy ice. Snow plow crews from across the region continue clearing area roadways as quickly as possible.

Nevertheless, travel remains treacherous, and residents are asked to stay off the roads until conditions improve.

"I want to thank our residents for continuing to stay home and safe," Mayor Brook Lyon said. "That's the best way to protect ourselves and our first responders, who work so hard for us every day."

Closings and cancellations: The Town is closed today for regular business and will remain closed tomorrow, as employees work remotely. Tonight's Neighborhood Council meeting has been postponed and will be rescheduled after the winter weather has passed.
