Dominion Energy to Host Vegetation Management Workshop on James Island

Dominion Energy to Host Vegetation Management Workshop on James Island

WHAT: As part of our five-year cycle to maintain the safety, resiliency and reliability of the electric system, Dominion Energy will host a public workshop as we begin safeguarding overhead distribution lines from hazardous vegetation throughout parts of James Island and surrounding areas. Work is scheduled to begin in March.

WHEN:                                Wednesday, Feb. 26, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

WHERE:                             James Island Town Hall, 1122 Dills Bluff Road, James Island

WHY:   Trees that have grown too close to overhead power lines are both a fire hazard and an issue of employee and public safety. Trees and tree limbs represent the No. 1 reason for power outages on our system.

The project which will extend across more than 100 miles of overhead distribution lines throughout parts of the Town of James Island, the City of Charleston, the James Island Public Service District and other areas of Charleston County is set to begin next month. Property owners will be notified by mail or email approximately two weeks prior to the start of trimming in their area.

To help residents better understand the scope of the project, oversized maps marking the streets where work is planned will be on display. The workshop will be set up in informational stations to allow interested residents the opportunity to drop in at their convenience.
