The Town of James Island and Palmetto Choral Collective will host a local “Play Music on the Porch Day” event Saturday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the screened porch at James Island Town Hall.
Founded in 2014, Play Music on the Porch Day is a worldwide grassroots celebration that encourages musicians and music lovers to get together and make music in the open air. Every year, musicians in more than 1,000 cities in 70 countries participate.
Attendees are invited to bring acoustic instruments or simply their voices and join in the fun. Song leaders will provide easy-to-play folk music charts and lyrics, and Dough Boyz Pizza will have a food truck onsite.
The event also will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the James Island Art and Community Center, now under construction behind Town Hall and scheduled to open in 2027, along with ways to support the project.
