Fort Johnson Rd at Camp Road and Secessionville Intersection Improvements

 

These intersection improvements are Charleston County projects funded by a 1/2 cent sales tax and are both partially within the jurisdiction of the Town of James Island and partially within the City of Charleston.

The Fort Johnson Road and Camp Road roundabout is an estimated $5-$6 million project with a Notice to Proceed issued on October 8, 2025.

The Fort Johnson Road and Secessionville Road traffic signal is an estimated $4.5 million project with a Notice to Proceed issued on October 8, 2025. 

 

 


 

 

History: 

In February 2023, the Town of James Island's arborist evaluated the trees and the reports for the roundabout; Gerard's Report

The project required the removal of two grand oak trees in the SCDOT right-of-way.    Here is a report submitted by Charleston County in January of 2023.

The Town's Board of Zoning Appeals approved removing the two trees in January 2023.
